In fact Hellas has almost been the epicenter of lovers of this sport since 1962.
The first golf course in Athens was designed by golf architect Donald Harradine over 50 years ago in Glyfada, close to the Athens International Airport of Hellinikon, consisting of 18 holes in 530 acres!
This Golf Club has hosted numerous Mediterranean tournaments including the 1979 Golf World Championship and the 2012 Greek Faldo Series Junior Championship, with the late Greek former President of the Republic for 10 years and Prime Minister for 14 years Constantine Karamanlis, being the most distinguished player.
Since then, the popularity of the game in Greece has grown considerably and now there are golf courses away from Athens, with the bar having been raised significantly by Costa Navarino Hotels in Messinia, Peloponnese since 2010.
For example, one of the three courses - The Dunes offers to players an 18-hole course designed to dip you into the beautiful scenery of the surroundings. Different holes - not only different types, but also different degree of difficulty!

The Corfu course was included in the heart of the Ropa Valley in the late 1960s and has been a favorite of the editors of Golf Illustrated and Golf Monthly magazines ever since.
Hole layout has water barriers. Each of the seven ponds symbolizes an island of the Ionian Sea. After the year 2000, they carried out modernization in irrigation and maintenance equipment, which significantly improved the game performance.

Porto Elounda is a 9-hole course in Mirabello Bay. The first modern golf course opened on the island, before Crete Golf Club.The latter was opened in 2003 and to this day it is the only 18-hole course on the island. The construction required extensive ground preparation, stone crushing and topsoil backfilling. And in 2010, the field was improved and a 5-star hotel was built nearby. One of the additional advantages is the proximity to the airport.
There are also golf courses on the island of Rhodes and Halkidiki in Porto Carras Hotel - the only track so far in northern continental Greece.
